It
probably has been lost to most who now visit this site
but r2wtrials originaly started up as a way for myself,
Heath, to contact and then keep in contact with fellow
BikeTrials riders around the West Country. This was back
in the late 90's when I had moved from East Sussex over
to Worle near Weston-Super-Mare to take up a job in a motorcycle
shop in Bristol but couldn't afford to buy a Motocycle
Trials bike again.
I obtained a small mtb frame and converted it for use as
a trials bike... this was in the early days of BikeTrials
when there were only a couple of manufacturers making proper
Trials kit. I met up with a couple of local lads, Ben and
Rob, and we started to learn a bit of hopping. I rode and
broke that frame very quickly and then found a cheap Sunn
team issue frame, that I also cracked and the company Rep
sorted me out a new white team frame as soon as they were
available. I met up with a couple of local lads who had taken
an interest in trials and through the early days of Biketrials
forums on the web Tony dropped me a line from Swindon and
after meeting up we eventually rode cycle and motorcycle
trials together.
The name
"r2w" comes from the item of our cycles that took the
most abuse... the Rock Ring, the full name
standing for Rock Ring Wreckers, shortened to r2w. |

Heath "The
Magpie"
Recently named as such by Tony because of my love for shiny
new things that I just have to buy & collect! |
After
a year or so of cycles I managed to get back into motorcycle
trials and the biketrials side of things gradually faded
out and was used only as a way of getting fit. Shortly
after starting the motorcycle side of things I met Kev
and then Graeme and a few years later Steve and Terry joined
us. Steve was about 12 then and about 4 foot tall... now
about 6 foot something! Terry hasn't changed much and he
can still have an accident in any situation!!!
The motorcycling
took over for around 5 years and I sold the cycles but
a bad back that prevented me from getting out much last
summer and the spirilling costs of driving up into Gloucester
and Wales to ride meant I took another look at the BikeTrials
world... my god it had changed in the 5 years away!!
All weird geometry and new products, and the youg guns
riding ability is awesome to watch.
So here we are again, Tony, Kev, Graeme, Steve, Terry and
myself hopping around on silly little bicycles!!! Tony and
Kev have sold their motorcycles because of time contraints
and Steve, Terry and I are still riding the motos... and
we may even get Graeme out on his old TY250 again soon, after
4 years. We have also been joined by Kev's son-in-law Mick...
who's mad!! He will be our biketrials version of Barry or
Burners! And I have now met back with Rob, after 7 years,
and he is joining us on the cycles having just purchased
a Zoo Pitbull.
Forgot to
say... team OGC stands for Old Gits Collective,
apart from Steve we are all over 40 years old. There isn't
going to be any heroics from us, no 20 foot drop-offs or
360's off the railings (not intentionally anyway!) but
what we manage to do we will do with a smile and a bad
back!!!!!!! |
